Somalia hosted its COVID-19 testing at Jijiga University.
The country, which has a shortfall of testing laboratories for the virulent disease, which has claimed over 250,000 around the world, chose the university for its incredible facilities.
Mustafa Mohamed Omar, the region’s acting president, supervised the launch of the event.
Reports from the state-sponsored Fana Broadcasting Corporation (FBC) show that the university is capable of testing up to 240 samples each day.
In the past, samples from individuals suspected of displaying symptoms associated with COVID-19 were sent to Addis Ababa in Ethiopia where a state-of-the-art testing facility is available.
However, individuals had to wait several days to get their results back from Ethiopia.
The decision to conduct all the tests at Jijiga University comes as welcome news to health experts, authorities, and the concerned individuals as well as their families and friends.
