The term of the Federal Parliament of Somalia has expired on December 27.
The four-year term of the nation’s parliament expired on Sunday without any viable alternative in place.
Somalia should have held its parliamentary elections in December 2020 in time for the new parliament to take over from the outgoing legislators.
However, there are doubts whether the country has made sufficient plans for that to happen.
The 10th Parliament’s term started on December 27, 2017.
As things stand, there is no legislative body or team responsible for creating laws or providing oversight to the work done by the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS).
