Berlin, Germany – The State Minister for Defence of Somalia, Omar Ali Abdi, led a Somali delegation to a high-level ministerial summit on UN peacekeeping held in Berlin, Germany.
The international event brought together over 1,000 participants from 130 countries, including defence and foreign ministers, to reaffirm global support for United Nations peacekeeping operations.
The summit served as a platform for member states to discuss ways to enhance the effectiveness and sustainability of UN peacekeeping missions, which remain a cornerstone of the organization’s efforts to maintain international peace and stability.
Abdi highlighted Somalia’s experience with peacekeeping, including collaboration with African Union forces, and reiterated Somalia’s support for UN efforts in conflict-affected regions.
The Somali delegation also used the opportunity to engage with partners on strategies for post-conflict stabilization and security sector reform.
Germany hosted the summit to galvanize renewed international commitments to UN peacekeeping as global conflicts grow increasingly complex.
