Somalia Partners with the US and Interpol to Launch Aviation Security Data-Sharing System

Mogadishu – Somalia has officially launched a new data-sharing system with the United States and Interpol aimed at bolstering international aviation security.

The initiative, led by the Immigration and Citizenship Agency (ICA), is part of a broader effort to strengthen border control measures and enhance cooperation in combating transnational threats.

According to officials, the system will allow for real-time exchange of passenger data and travel information, enabling authorities to detect and respond to potential security risks more effectively.

“The launch marks a significant step toward modernizing Somalia’s border management infrastructure and aligning with global standards in aviation safety,” the agency said in a statement.

The new framework is expected to improve screening processes at ports of entry and facilitate the tracking of individuals involved in terrorism, human trafficking, and other cross-border crimes.

Security analysts have welcomed the move, noting that international collaboration is essential for nations like Somalia, which continues to face threats from extremist groups and criminal networks.

The system is part of Somalia’s ongoing reforms to rebuild institutions and regain full control of national security functions, in line with international best practices.
