Somalia Planning 30% Reduction of Emissions by 2030

Somalia remains committed to the reduction of emissions by as much as 30 percent by 2030.

Currently, Somalia’s share of global Greenhouse Gas Emissions (GHG) stands at 0.09 percent while it is positioned at 172nd place on the Climate Vulnerability Index ranking.

Somalia had submitted its revised National Determined Contributions (NDCs) in July 2021.

The revised figures show the country’s determination to meet the 30 percent conditional emissions reduction target by 2030.

However, Somalia reiterated that its ability to attain this is dependent upon the support it receives internationally publically and privately.

It has already set quantifiable targets in various targets.

These include in waste, transport, forestry, energy, and agriculture sectors.

On November 24, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) confirmed Somalia’s commitment to the reduction of GHG emissions by 2030.

UNDP promised to stand by Somalia in achieving its target.
