On Friday, the Commissioner of the Somali Police Force, General Asad Osman Abdullahi, conducted a field inspection on Saturday of emergency response sites affected by recent flooding in the capital, Mogadishu.
The Police Commissioner assessed the scale of the damage and ongoing response efforts in various districts severely impacted by heavy rains and flash floods.
His visit aimed to evaluate the security and humanitarian conditions on the ground and ensure that coordination between police forces and emergency teams remains strong.
Gen. Asad expressed concern over the hardships faced by displaced families and commended the efforts of the police units, local authorities, and humanitarian agencies working around the clock to assist flood victims.
He reaffirmed the Somali Police Force’s commitment to maintaining public safety and supporting relief efforts during the crisis.
“We are here to ensure that our citizens are protected, and that aid reaches those who need it most,” Gen. Asad said.
The floods, which began earlier this week, have displaced hundreds of families and damaged infrastructure in multiple neighborhoods.
Authorities have called for increased support from national and international partners to respond to the growing humanitarian needs.
Gen. Asad’s visit underscores the importance of integrated emergency responses and the role of security institutions in disaster-affected areas.
