Somalia Police Chief Suspended for Sabotaging Election of Lower House Leadership

The Commander of the Somali Police Force (SPF) has been suspended for sabotaging the election of the new leadership of the House of the People (Lower House).

Abdullahi Nor suspended Major General (Rtd) Abdi Hassan Mohamed Hijar on April 26.

The minister cited several reasons for suspending Maj. Gen. Hijar.

These include the decision by the police boss to send his officers to block the swearing-in ceremony of newly elected legislators from Jubbaland.

Apparently, Hijar was responsible for stopping the legislators elected in last weekend’s elections in El-Wak and Garbaharey from taking their oath of office.

Nor also accused Maj. Gen. Hijar of taking part in politics.

The security minister is a close ally of Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble.
