Somalia Press Unions Urge Courts to be Independent in Mumin’s Case

Press unions in Somalia have urged the judiciary to act independently.

Representatives of the press unions made this appeal to the judiciary while commenting about the impending court against Abdalle Mumin at the Banadir Regional Court.

Mumin has been under detention since his arrest on October 11.

He appeared before the Banadir Regional Court on Sunday.

The press unions were speaking following reports that the federal government would like to influence the case against Mumin, who is a local journalist.

Some of the unions that spoke on the matter included the Somali Journalists Syndicate (SJS).

Others were the Somali Media Association (SOMA), the Somali Mechanism for Safety of Journalists (SMJS), and the Somali Independent Media Houses Association (SIMHA).
