Nairobi, Kenya – The Somalia Enhancing Public Resource Management Project (SERP) has entered a crucial evaluation phase with the launch of its mid-term review mission in Nairobi.
The mission, bringing together Somali government officials, project teams, and development partners, will assess the overall implementation progress since the project’s start. The discussions will cover fiduciary performance, environmental and social safeguards, major achievements to date, as well as gaps and challenges that may affect the delivery of results.
Key areas of review include the strengthening of Somalia’s public financial management systems, improved transparency in the allocation and use of public resources, and capacity-building efforts across government institutions. The mission also seeks to identify priority actions needed to ensure the project remains on track to achieve its long-term goals.
Since its inception, SERP has focused on supporting Somalia’s recovery by enhancing accountability, improving revenue collection, and promoting more efficient use of public funds. Early achievements have included reforms in budget planning, advances in financial reporting, and the introduction of tools to improve government oversight.
The mid-term review provides an opportunity for all stakeholders to reflect on lessons learned, agree on corrective measures where necessary, and realign implementation strategies to accelerate results.
Findings and recommendations from the Nairobi mission will be consolidated into a comprehensive report, which will serve as a roadmap for the next phase of SERP implementation, ensuring Somalia continues to make strides toward stronger governance and more effective resource management.
