In the 2025 Global Firepower Index, Somalia is ranked 142nd out of 145 countries, placing it among the world’s least-equipped militaries. With a Power Index score of 4.2037, Somalia only outperforms Bhutan, Benin, and the Central African Republic.
The index evaluates military strength using over 60 criteria, where a score of 0.0000 represents “perfect” capability—meaning lower scores reflect stronger military power.
Despite its low ranking, Somalia has received substantial support from international partners, including the United States, Turkey, the European Union, and the United Kingdom, through training programs and financial assistance.
