Somalia has been ranked among the eight most corrupt countries in the world in the latest Trace Bribery Risk Matrix.
The East African nation is now ranked 187th out of 194 countries.
In 2018 and 2019, Somalia was ranked the worst country in the world. It has improved significantly in this year’s ranking.
The Trace Bribery Risk Matrix evaluates countries based on the likelihood of bribe demands from public officials and institutions.
Somalia has performed better in this year’s ranking than Equatorial Guinea, Yemen, Eritrea, Venezuela, South Sudan, Turkmenistan, and North Korea.
Denmark, Norway, Finland, Sweden, and New Zealand are the world’s five least corrupt countries, as per this year’s ranking.
Somalia and South Sudan are the two most corrupt countries in the Horn of Africa region, as per the latest Trace Bribery Risk Matrix ranking.
