The latest rankings on the cost of Internet have seen Somalia climb a few steps higher and the country’s Ministry of Post, Telecom and Technology has welcomed the news.
According to Abdi Ashur Hassan, who is the Minister of Post, Telecom and Technology, the ranking now sees Somalia occupying the first place in the continent.
Worldwide, Somalia is ranked seventh in the list of countries with the lowest cost of Internet.
The improved ranking is remarkable considering that Somalia was ranked 134th in the world only a year ago and 37th in Africa.
In 2019, 1GB of bandwidth cost $6.19 in the Horn of Africa nation.
Further, to put this in context, Somalia is one of the last countries in the continent to be connected to the Internet.
