Somalia Ranked the Most Corrupt Nation in the World

According to the 2019 Corruption Perceptions Index, or CPI, Somalia is the most corrupt country in the world.

Transparency International (TI) releases the report annually. It does so after evaluating perceived levels of corruption in the public sector in 180 countries.

TI’s report cites several factors for the endemic levels of corruption in Somalia. It says the terrible rule of law in the country has enabled corruption to thrive unabated.

Decades of civil war have made Somalia an ungovernable country. Islamist militant groups have also emerged and created havoc through regular attacks all over the country.

In the past, the Federal Government of Somalia threatened to sue Transparency International for what it considers unfair reporting and ranking.

It has called the terrible ranking “unreliable and falsehood.”
