Somalia Readies for First Shipment of Medical Supplies from European Union

Somalia is ready to receive the first shipment of medical supplies from the European Union (EU) that is scheduled to arrive in the country this month.

The EU Delegation to Somalia released a press statement indicating that the shipment has already arrived in Ethiopia.

According to EU, the shipment contains five million supplies of protective equipment.

As per the EU statement, the supplies include face shields, surgical masks, disposable respiratory masks, and protective gowns.

The supplies are for all the eight-member countries of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD).

These countries are also eligible for the 70,000 test kits, 24 ambulances, and 8 mobile labs.

EU is delivering the supplies as part of its €60 million program to help Somalia and other East African nations to fight the deadly COVID-19 pandemic.
