Somalia is ready to take over security responsibilities fully from the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).
President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo announced this on February 6 during his keynote address at the 35th African Union Summit.
Farmaajo was in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia for the summit.
“Our security agencies are ready to assume complete control of all security responsibilities from AMISOM,” Farmaajo told the summit.
He mentioned the huge strides that his administration has made in the fight against extremism and terrorism.
Farmaajo urged other African governments to help Somalia in curbing the growth and expansion of Al-Shabaab in the country.
