Earlier today, Somalia’s Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism, Daud Aweis, reaffirmed the federal government’s unwavering commitment to defeating the Al-Shabaab terrorist group and restoring lasting peace across the nation. Speaking at a press briefing in Mogadishu, Aweis emphasized that the ongoing security efforts—anchored in close coordination between national security forces, local communities, and international partners—are crucial in dismantling the group’s remaining strongholds and influence.
Aweis highlighted the fact that while significant progress has been made in reclaiming territories and disrupting militant operations, sustained collaboration and public engagement are vital to achieving long-term stability. “With continued coordinated efforts, community engagement, and international support, we remain firmly committed to eradicating Al-Shabaab and bringing peace to every corner of Somalia,” he stated.
The government’s approach integrates military operations with social outreach, counter-radicalization programs, and development initiatives to ensure that liberated areas are not only secure but also benefit from improved governance and public services. The minister also acknowledged the sacrifices of Somali security personnel and the resilience of communities affected by terrorism, reaffirming that the fight against extremism is a national priority that demands unity and perseverance.
