Somalia Reaffirms Support for Palestine at OIC Ministerial Session

Jeddah, Saudi Arabia – Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdisalam Ali, participated in the extraordinary ministerial session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where he reiterated Somalia’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause.

The high-level gathering, convened to address the ongoing humanitarian and political crisis facing the Palestinian people, brought together foreign ministers and representatives from across the OIC’s 57 member states. Discussions centered on collective action to defend Palestinian rights, strengthen diplomatic pressure against Israeli policies, and mobilize humanitarian aid for civilians in Gaza and the occupied territories.

In his remarks, Ali reaffirmed Somalia’s consistent stance on the issue, underscoring that the Palestinian struggle for self-determination is integral to global justice and peace. He emphasized that Somalia stands firmly with the Palestinian people and backs all international efforts aimed at ending the occupation and achieving the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The Somali foreign minister also called on the OIC to intensify both diplomatic and humanitarian initiatives, warning that the protracted crisis continues to fuel instability across the region. He highlighted the need for solidarity among Muslim-majority countries to ensure that the rights of Palestinians are defended on every international platform.

The extraordinary session concluded with renewed commitments from member states to pursue coordinated action at the United Nations and other multilateral bodies, as well as to provide urgent humanitarian assistance to Palestinians affected by the escalating crisis.

Somalia’s strong message in Jeddah comes at a time when Mogadishu is stepping up its engagement in regional and international affairs, signaling its intention to play a more active role in advancing peace, justice, and solidarity within the OIC framework.
