Jack Ma, the richest man in China, recently announced that he would be sending a package of Coronavirus test kits and other protective supplies to all African nations.
Ma fulfilled his promise when the supplies to Somalia arrived in Mogadishu on March 24, 2020.
The Tuesday arrival of COVID-19 test kits and facemasks would go a long way towards enabling Somalia to keep track of the virus and ensure it does not spread further.
Jack Ma’s consignment arrived in Mogadishu’s Aden Abdulle International Airport aboard an Ethiopian Airlines plane.
Several officials from the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) accompanied Chin Jian, China’s Ambassador to Somalia, to the airport to receive the consignment.
Speaking on behalf of FGS, Saed Mohamed Abdullahi, the country’s Deputy Minister of Health and Social Services expressed his gratitude to the Chinese government and Jack Ma.
Saed also clarified that the country expects a second consignment from the co-founder of the Alibaba Group in the coming days.
