Somalia’s Ministry of Education expressed regret over an error appearing on a geography textbook regarding the size of its coastline.
According to the textbook, the country has a coastline measuring 2,800kms.
The accurate figure is 3,333kms thus representing a shortfall of 533kms.
Education ministry did not deny the error, which was highlighted by a schoolteacher recently.
A statement from the education ministry dated December 4 admitted that the error was noted in four geography textbooks.
Nevertheless, the statement never specified how the error came to be.
The ministry admitted that it would pay close attention to future editions to ensure that such costly errors are not repeated.
It also agreed to make corrections on the error noted on the four books although a decision on whether to recall the books is yet to be taken.
