It is clear to all that the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) has been at loggerheads with Jubbaland. Consequently, the conflict is likely to spread into Kenya’s Mandera County from where it could threaten insecurity in the region.
Governor Ali Roba of Mandera County believes that the governments in the Horn of Africa nations have to work together to solve this problem. On Wednesday, while addressing Mandera County Assembly, Roba said the conflicts have “escalated to dangerous levels.”
In January 2020, FGS’s troops moved to Gedo region thus displacing security forces from Jubbaland. They also interfered with the operations of Jubbaland administration. Since then, FGS troops have been camping at Bulahawa.
They seem more intent on pursuing and capturing the Abdirashid Hassan Abdinur, who is Jubbaland’s Minister for State Security. Mr. Roba continued to say, “All the displaced forces are now in Kenya’s territory.”
Governor Roba says he does not understand why the wars between Jubbaland and Somalia have spread into Mandera County, which has stayed away from the affairs of the two nations. He says the county has offered all the support the two need.
