Somalia’s Defence Minister Receives Voter Registration Card in Galkayo

Galkayo, Galmudug – The Minister of Defence of the Federal Government of Somalia, Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, formally registered today at the National Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (NIEBC) centre in Galkacyo, Mudug region.

After obtaining his voter registration card, Fiqi urged the Somali people, especially communities nationwide, to participate actively in the registration process to choose representatives who will serve at every level of government.

He stated: “Today I arrived in Galkacyo, and it is an honour to formally register and receive my voter card for the district, federal member state, and national elections. Elections are a constitutional right that have been absent from the hands of the people for 56 years, and today that right has been restored to the citizens of Somalia.”

The minister described this occasion as historic and crucial for state-building and progressing Somalia’s democratic journey. He stressed that citizen participation forms the basis for implementing the one-person-one-vote system and achieving authentic, representative governance that embodies the people’s will.
