Somalia’s Foreign Minister Arrives in New Delhi to Boost Arab-India Economic Ties

NEW DELHI — Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, H.E. Abdisalam Abdi Ali, arrived in New Delhi on Friday to represent the nation at the Arab-India Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.

The visit highlights Somalia’s strategic aim to enhance diplomatic relations with key Asian economies through the framework of the Arab League.

Strategic Objectives

According to the Ministry, Somalia’s participation in the forum focuses on three primary goals:

  • Strengthening political dialogue.

  • Broadening bilateral and multilateral economic collaborations.

  • Promoting South-South Cooperation principles.

The delegation intends to utilize this platform to attract investment and align Somalia’s development path with the economic flows linking the Arab world and India. Through direct engagement with Indian and Arab partners, the Minister aims to secure practical agreements supporting the nation’s trade and infrastructure sectors.

Diplomatic Welcome

Upon arrival at Indira Gandhi International Airport, the Foreign Minister and his delegation were received with full diplomatic protocol.

They were greeted by Somalia’s Ambassador to India, H.E. Abdullahi Mohamed Odowaa, alongside senior diplomats from the Somali Embassy. Representing the host nation, Dr. Suresh Kumar from India’s Ministry of External Affairs welcomed the delegation.

The summit takes place as Somalia works to reestablish its diplomatic standing internationally, seeking to diversify global partnerships and secure economic prospects for its expanding market.
