Somalia’s Planning Ministry Reviews 2025 WFP Programs

MOGADISHU — Somalia’s Ministry of Planning, Investment and Economic Development has successfully organized the 2025 Annual Review of World Food Programme (WFP) initiatives in the capital. The session was coordinated through the Ministry’s Monitoring and Evaluation Department.

The review session was led by the Ministry’s Director General, Mr. Mohamed Shire, and was attended by WFP’s Deputy Head of Programs, Michele Kiermeier, alongside senior representatives from various federal ministries.

Aligning with the National Transformation Plan

Discussions during the review primarily centered on harmonizing international humanitarian and development efforts with the government’s ambitious National Transformation Plan (NTP 2025–2029). This strategic alignment aims to significantly enhance the national development framework and ensure that aid operations complement Somalia’s long-term economic priorities.

Furthermore, officials emphasized the importance of implementing strict Results-Based Monitoring (RBM) protocols across all active and future projects to ensure tangible, measurable outcomes for the Somali people.

Fostering Sustainable Development

The Ministry appears to prioritize that all collaborative partnerships, especially those with major UN agencies like the WFP, actively contribute to sustainable economic development and help build enduring resilience among vulnerable communities nationwide.
