Mogadishu, Somalia – Hamza Abdi Barre, Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, has officially inaugurated the First National Justice Forum, a pivotal event aimed at fortifying the rule of law, boosting accountability, and restoring public confidence in the nation’s judicial bodies.
In his address, the Prime Minister noted that Somalia is navigating a vital phase of state-building, demanding an independent, transparent, and dependable justice system to address citizens’ needs. He underscored the necessity of upholding the rule of law and refining judicial institutions to guarantee impartial justice, enduring peace, and governmental stability.
“Without trustworthy justice, there can be no enduring security, public trust, investment, or the modern statehood Somalia deserves. Judicial reform is a national priority and the only path to a stable and prosperous Somalia,” PM Hamza stated.
He added that a robust judiciary is crucial for free and fair elections, democratic governance, and rebuilding public confidence. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment under the Dan Qaran administration to establishing the Judicial Service Commission and the Constitutional Court, both regarded as key supports for judicial independence.
The Prime Minister further stressed that finalizing the Provisional Constitution provides the foundation for implementing Somalia’s legal and federal governance systems. A completed constitution, he observed, would bring political stability, a unified governance structure, protection of citizens’ rights, and equitable justice for all.
PM Barre thanked Somalia’s justice sector for organizing the inaugural forum and called on participants to engage constructively in discussions and propose practical, effective recommendations to advance judicial reform and enhance justice delivery nationwide.
