Somalia’s President set for Saudi Arabia trip amid changing alliances

Mogadishu Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is scheduled to travel to Saudi Arabia this week, officials confirmed, as the country adjusts to evolving regional relationships.

The visit follows expressions of mutual support between Mogadishu and Riyadh after tensions arose related to Saudi Arabia’s ties with the United Arab Emirates. Somalia endorsed Saudi Arabia’s position urging the UAE to cease what Riyadh termed interference in Yemen’s internal affairs.

Officials stated the discussions will center on enhancing bilateral relations, regional collaboration, and security issues, while consolidating recent agreements between both nations.

The trip occurs as political changes reshape the Horn of Africa and Middle East, influencing Arab regional dynamics and Somalia’s strategic role.

Earlier, President Mohamud visited Djibouti and Turkey to gain diplomatic backing for Somalia’s sovereignty following Israel’s recognition of Somaliland, which drew widespread international criticism.
