The Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) has ordered all schools in the country closed after confirming the first Coronavirus case a day ago.
Authorities say the schools, both public and private, will remain closed for two weeks, as the government monitors the situation.
On Tuesday, Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire said, “We have no choice but to disrupt the school calendar. Schools, colleges, and universities shall remain closed for a fortnight.”
By closing schools and all institutions of learning, PM Khaire said the government would use the opportunity to monitor the pandemic effectively.
Furthermore, the government also announced that it had banned all huge gatherings around the country for the next two weeks.
Somalia confirmed its first case of Coronavirus on Monday. The victim was in a group of four people the government had quarantined after traveling back to the country from China.
