Somalia Seeks Uganda’s Support in Bid for AUPSC Seat

Somalia’s Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Hamza Haadoow, and Uganda’s Permanent Secretary, Bagiire Vincent Waiswa, met in Kampala on Wednesday .

Their meeting and subsequent discussions highlight growing regional cooperation.

The officials exchanged views on Somalia’s candidacy for an African Union Peace and Security Council (AUPSC) seat, which would enhance its role in regional peace and security matters.

They also reviewed the Ankara Agreement, involving Somalia and Ethiopia, as part of their commitment to fostering regional peace and addressing shared challenges.

Both parties emphasized the urgency of collaborative efforts to address the ongoing crisis in Sudan, underlining the importance of stability for the region.

The statement from the meeting reiterated the necessity of regional unity to achieve peace and stability across East Africa and the Horn.
