The Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) has seized hundreds of bank accounts associated with the Al-Shabaab group.
The government announced the seizure of the bank accounts on Sunday.
Abdirahman Yusuf Al-Adala, the Deputy Minister of Information, told the media the government had seized 250 bank accounts linked to Al-Shabaab militants.
He added that the government had also captured 70 mobile money accounts.
Al-Adala added that the government had received tips showing that the terrorists were using the accounts for keeping funds collected by extorting Somalis.
Meanwhile, Dr. Elmi Mohamed Nur, the Minister of Finance, has requested businesspeople to be extra vigilant in their transactions with traders suspected to be working with Al-Shabaab.
