Somalia Sends 20 Doctors to Italy to Help Fight Coronavirus

The Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) will send 20 doctors to Italy to help the European nation fight the spread of Coronavirus.

Globally, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases is more than 601,000. Italy has around 86,500 confirmed cases out of which 9,134 have lost their lives.

A spokesperson for the FGS, Ismail Mukhtar Orongo, said the doctors have “volunteered from Somali National University in Mogadishu.”

Orongo said the doctors have already registered with the Italian Embassy in Mogadishu, the capital of the Horn of Africa country.

Somalia has answered the call from Italy’s government for assistance.

On Friday, Italy reported 919 new deaths, which is the highest number in any country over a 24-hour period, from the pandemic that threatens global economy.
