Mogadishu, Somalia — The Federal Government of Somalia has expressed its condolences to the people and government of Sudan following a devastating landslide in the Darfur region that left numerous casualties and widespread destruction.
In a statement issued late Wednesday, Somali officials said Mogadishu stands in solidarity with Khartoum during this difficult time, describing the disaster as a “heartbreaking tragedy that has cost precious lives and left many families displaced.”
The government extended sympathy to the families of those who perished in the landslide, while also wishing a swift recovery to the injured and reaffirming its commitment to strengthening the long-standing brotherly relations between the two nations.
Darfur, already grappling with conflict and humanitarian crises, has now been further burdened by the natural disaster, which struck residential areas and destroyed homes, leaving rescue teams overwhelmed. Sudanese authorities are continuing search and recovery efforts as aid agencies move to assist survivors.
Somalia’s message of solidarity follows similar expressions of support from regional and international partners. Mogadishu emphasized that moments of tragedy call for collective compassion and cooperation across the Horn of Africa and beyond.
