The Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) has sent the Kenyan Ambassador to Somalia back to Nairobi with immediate effect.
On Sunday, November 29, the government ordered Lt. Gen. (Rtd) Lucas Tumbo back to Nairobi, in what seems to be an escalation of the diplomatic tiff between Somalia and Kenya.
Lt. Gen. Tumbo’s expulsion took place soon after Jubbaland’s President Ahmed Islam Madobe stated that there would be no elections in Somalia if certain conditions were not met.
FGS took Madobe’s latest comments as a sign of reneging on the electoral agreement signed with Federal Member States (FMS) in September 2020.
Furthermore, Mogadishu has always believed that Madobe enjoys support from Kenya.
Consequently, it viewed his comments regarding elections as a case of Kenya meddling in its affairs.
