Somalia, Serbia Deepen Defense Ties in Belgrade Talks

Belgrade, Serbia – In Belgrade, Somalia’s Minister of Defense, Ahmed Moalim Fiqi, held high-level discussions with his Serbian counterpart, Bratislav Gašić, on Monday to advance defense cooperation between the two nations.

The meeting focused on practical areas of collaboration, including specialized skills training for Somali forces, technology exchange, and the development of joint defense initiatives. Both ministers underscored the importance of aligning their countries’ mutual security interests and building stronger bilateral relations.

The talks come as Somalia continues its drive to modernize and professionalize its armed forces, with international partnerships playing a central role in boosting capacity amid ongoing security challenges. For Serbia, the engagement represents an opportunity to strengthen ties with a strategic African partner and share expertise in military technology and training.

Officials noted that the discussions marked a step forward in long-term cooperation, setting the groundwork for future agreements designed to enhance stability and foster closer political, security, and technical collaboration between Mogadishu and Belgrade.
