Somalia has set a new election schedule thus creating more anxiety among the political elite in the country.
The Federal Electoral Implementation Team (FEIT) published a new electoral schedule on Wednesday, December 23.
In the new schedule, elections for candidates interested in the Senate seats are set to take place from December 31 to January 6.
Somalia was originally scheduled to hold local and parliamentary elections in December 2020 before following that up with presidential polls in February 2021.
FEIT also announced that candidates interested in the 54 senatorial seats must register for the polls from December 26.
Those who would love to vie for the seat of State President must register on December 29.
Nevertheless, FEIT is yet to release the dates for elections for the Lower House, which has a membership of 275 Members of Parliament (MPs).
Additionally, FEIT announced that electoral commissions at the federal and state level are to start registering, verifying, and training traditional elders from January 7.
