The Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) has severed diplomatic ties with Kenya with immediate effect.
On Tuesday, December 15, Somalia announced that it was cutting any diplomatic relations it had with Kenya.
The news emerged a day after Somalia submitted a protest letter against Kenya to the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD).
Furthermore, Somalia took this severe decision a day after President Muse Bihi Abdi of Somaliland made a three-day official visit to Kenya.
Bihi arrived in Nairobi on Sunday, December 13.
Somaliland’s increased dalliance with Kenya seems to have rubbed Mogadishu the wrong way hence the latest diplomatic tiff between the neighbors.
Somaliland has craved international recognition for decades.
This year, it has already established diplomatic ties with Taiwan to the chagrin of China and Somalia. Now, it seems to have focused on improving relations with Nairobi.
