Somalia Signs a Landmark Agricultural Cooperation MoU with Azerbaijan 

Baku, Azerbaijan — In a significant step toward strengthening bilateral ties, Somalia’s Minister of Agriculture, Mohamed A. Hayir Maareeye, and Azerbaijan’s Minister of Agriculture, Majnun Mammadov, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today in Baku to promote strategic collaboration in the agricultural sector.

The agreement outlines comprehensive cooperation across key areas, including agricultural development, the exchange of best practices, innovation and technology transfer, trade facilitation, and investment in Somalia’s vast arable land.

Both nations also committed to supporting joint agricultural research, the establishment of climate-resilient irrigation systems, and the provision of agricultural scholarships for Somali students to study in Azerbaijan.

Maareeye described the MoU as a “turning point for Somalia’s agriculture sector,” emphasizing the importance of partnerships that leverage innovation and expertise to improve food security and rural livelihoods.

Mammadov hailed the agreement as a testament to Azerbaijan’s growing engagement with Africa and its commitment to supporting agricultural sustainability through global partnerships.

This agreement marks a promising new chapter in Somalia-Azerbaijan relations and is expected to generate tangible outcomes in boosting Somalia’s agricultural productivity and resilience.
