The Swedish Ambassador to Somalia, Joachim Waern, has spoken on the upcoming transition to the African Union’s new mission in Somalia.
Speaking on Thursday, he emphasized that the decision regarding troop-contributing countries lies with the federal government.
The Ambassador suggested that the Ankara Declaration might facilitate the continued presence of Ethiopian troops in Somalia, a contentious issue given regional dynamics.
However, he ruled out the possibility of deploying Egyptian forces to Somalia.
Instead, he proposed that Egypt’s role could center on operational support and policy-making, reflecting a non-combat contribution to the mission.
It is important to note that these views were presented as his personal opinions and do not represent an official stance.
