Cape Town, South Africa – On the sidelines of the Africa Water Investment Summit, Somalia’s Deputy Prime Minister, Jibril Abdirashid Hagi Abdi, met with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa to discuss ways of deepening bilateral relations across multiple sectors.
The meeting, attended by Somalia’s Ambassador to South Africa, Mohamed Sheikh Issak, focused on expanding trade opportunities, strengthening cooperation in multilateral platforms, and fostering knowledge exchange between the two nations. Both leaders underscored the importance of bolstering security cooperation, particularly in addressing issues affecting Somali nationals in South Africa.
In addition, the discussions reflected a shared vision for sustainable development, climate resilience, and enhanced regional stability. President Ramaphosa and Deputy Prime Minister Abdi reaffirmed their commitment to working together on joint initiatives that align with Africa’s broader growth and integration agenda.
The talks come at a time when Somalia seeks to broaden its international partnerships and South Africa continues to position itself as a key regional player in peacebuilding and economic collaboration.
