Mogadishu – The Minister of Defense, Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, on Wednesday inaugurated a national crisis communication simulation designed to enhance the government’s readiness to manage information flow during emergencies. The exercise brought together communication officers from various federal institutions to practice real-time coordination, decision-making, and message delivery during simulated security and terrorist incidents.
Organized by the Strategic Communications and Engagement Unit under the Office of the President, the training was conducted in partnership with the UK Government Communication Service International (GCSI). Participants were guided through scenario-based drills aimed at refining Somalia’s crisis communication protocols and strengthening cross-agency collaboration.
Fiqi emphasized that transparent, timely, and coordinated communication is as vital as military strength in the country’s fight against terrorism. He urged institutions to present factual and consistent information that sustains public trust and national unity during moments of crisis.
National Security Advisor, Ambassador Aweis Haji Yusuf, and UK Chargé d’Affaires, Sam Thomas, also attended the opening session, lauding Somalia’s growing institutional maturity and its deepening cooperation with the United Kingdom. The exercise marks another step toward building a cohesive national communication system that reinforces Somalia’s stability and resilience.
