Somalia, Sudan Deepen Ties in Push for Joint Economic Reforms

Mogadishu, Somalia – The Minister of Finance, Bihi Egeh, on Wednesday welcomed Sudan’s Ambassador to Somalia, Abdelrahman Khalil, for talks aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing cooperation on economic reforms.

The meeting, held in Mogadishu, focused on advancing joint initiatives that support both nations’ fiscal stability and long-term development goals. Egeh emphasized Somalia’s commitment to working closely with Sudan in areas of mutual interest, particularly in reforming financial systems to drive sustainable growth.

Amb. Khalil reaffirmed Khartoum’s readiness to bolster ties with Mogadishu, describing the two nations as “brotherly countries with shared challenges and opportunities.” He noted that collaboration in economic governance and reform would help unlock new avenues for investment and regional integration.

Somalia is currently implementing wide-ranging economic and financial reforms, with support from international partners, to strengthen domestic revenue generation and reduce dependency on external aid. Sudan, facing its own economic restructuring efforts, has expressed interest in exchanging expertise and lessons learned.

Both sides agreed to continue dialogue and explore practical measures to advance cooperation in finance, trade, and development, underlining the importance of solidarity between the two countries.
