After developing a shipping code that aligns with international standard practices, Somalia is now set to be the latest port state in the world.
This is set to be the first time that the Horn of Africa nation enjoys such a status.
By joining this esteemed list, Somalia is now free to discharge its responsibilities as a coastal, port, and flag state unhindered.
It took the country six years to conclude the maritime development. Somalia relied on assistance from the United Nations Mission in Somalia (UMSOM).
The International Maritime Organization also played a crucial role in ensuring that the country finished developing its shipping code, which happened earlier this week.
