Somalia to Hold Parliamentary Elections on November 10

Somalia will be holding the long-awaited elections for the House of the People (Lower House) seats on November 10.

Mohamed Hassan Irro, the Chairperson of the Federal Electoral Commission, made this announcement on November 6.

He reiterated the electoral commission’s readiness to hold the polls.

Further, Irro called upon different stakeholders to ensure that the commission gets all the support it needs to hold the polls.

Irro assured the public that his commission would provide election materials to all voting centers in the country on time.

Delegates in different parts of the country will be electing new members of parliament (MPs).

Somaliland already kicked off the process earlier in the week.

Mahdi M. Gulaid, the Deputy Prime Minister, and Bihi Iman Egeh were the first two MPs to be elected to represent Somaliland in the Lower House.

Somalia’s parliamentary polls are almost a year late.
