The Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) intends to improve efficiency at two of Mogadishu’s most important infrastructures – the port and airport.
Dr. Elmi M. Nur, the new Minister of Finance, announced this on August 11 after visiting the Mogadishu Port and the Aden Adde International Airport in the nation’s capital.
He was in the company of other members of the new cabinet that was recently appointed by Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre.
During the visit, Dr. Elmi restated the importance of customs revenue.
In his brief address, the finance minister mentioned that Somalia would not witness growth in its domestic revenue mobilization efforts if it fails to prioritize customs revenue.
To this end, he promised that the government would improve efficiency at the port and airport.
Further, the Somali government seeks to boost service delivery and tax collection at the port and airport in line with the law.
