Somalia has announced plans to launch the country’s first all-women media unit in the next few days.
According to sources, the unit would be known as Bilan.
The goal is to allow women journalists from Somalia to work within an environment that is devoid of harassment.
Additionally, the women journalists would have the freedom to select the stories they want to cover.
Initially, the unit would consist of six female journalists.
The journalists intend to focus on hard news as well as in-depth features.
Bilan and the female journalists working for it are to enjoy support from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
Dalsan Media Group would host Bilan.
