The Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) has announced plans to rebuild the country’s coastal guard to protect its territorial integrity.
Hassan M. Said Samantar, the Director General at the Ministry of Defence, made this announcement on November 3.
Director General Samantar was addressing members of the press at the time.
His quotes come amid the recent diplomatic wrangles between Somalia and Kenya.
Somalia took Kenya to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague after accusing its East African neighbor of trespassing on its territory.
ICJ ruled in favor of Somalia.
Samantar assured Somalis in the country that the government would rebuild the navy and coast guard as one of the measures for protecting Somalia’s territorial waters.
