The Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) announced that it would roll out the COVID-19 vaccination exercise on March 16.
This was announced on Monday as the government received the first batch of 300,000 doses of the Astrazeneca vaccine.
From Tuesday, the country would be vaccinating frontline workers.
These include health workers and security personnel. The elderly and people diagnosed with chronic health conditions are set to receive the vaccine first too.
Dr. Fawziya Abikar Nur, the Minister of Health, was at the Aden Adde International Airport in Mogadishu to receive the vaccines.
James Swan, the United Nations Special Envoy to Somalia, also accompanied Dr. Nur to receive the vaccines, which were from COVAX.
