Somalia to Spend $40 Million on Elections

Somalia has set aside a budget of $40 million to cover the upcoming parliamentary and presidential elections.

On December 26, Dr. Abdirahman Beileh, the Minister of Finance, broke this news to the rest of the public.

Dr. Beileh said that the elections would cost the East African nation $40 million.

He made this announcement during a TV address on Saturday.

During his address, Dr. Beileh confirmed that the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) would pay 10 percent of the budget with the international community paying the rest.

Beileh said that the funds are designated for specific purposes, which include trips by members of the election commissions at the state and federal levels.

He mentioned that the funds would go into paying staff salaries and training personnel for the mission ahead.

The finance minister reassured Somalis that the government would use the funds properly and ensure that no one embezzles them.
