Somalia to Strengthen Cooperation with Türkiye in Marine Ransport

On Thursday, Somalia’s Minister of Ports and Marine Transport, Hon. Mohamud Adan Geesood, met with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan in Ankara to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation, particularly in developing vital infrastructure and marine transport.

This meeting builds upon ongoing collaborations between Somalia and Türkiye aimed at enhancing Somalia’s port infrastructure, modernizing equipment, training personnel, and providing technical support for management and operations.

The discussions also align with Türkiye’s broader engagement in the Horn of Africa, where it has been actively involved in mediating regional disputes, such as the maritime talks between Somalia and Ethiopia under the Ankara Declaration.

Türkiye’s commitment to supporting Somalia’s sovereignty and regional stability underscores the strategic importance of these diplomatic efforts.

This meeting reflects the deepening partnership between Somalia and Türkiye, focusing on mutual interests in infrastructure development and regional cooperation.
