Somalia, Türkiye Deepen Ties on Religious Affairs and Education

Mogadishu, Somalia – Somalia’s Minister of Endowments and Religious Affairs, Sheikh Mukhtar Robow Ali, welcomed a high-level delegation from Türkiye’s Diyanet Foundation during an official meeting held in Mogadishu. The discussions focused on bolstering bilateral cooperation in the areas of Islamic endowments (Waqf), institutional capacity-building, and educational opportunities for Somali scholars.

The visiting delegation from the Diyanet Foundation — Türkiye’s leading religious and humanitarian organization affiliated with the Presidency of Religious Affairs — engaged in productive dialogue with Minister Robow and senior officials from the ministry. Both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to enhancing the management and revitalization of Waqf institutions across Somalia.

Robow expressed appreciation for Türkiye’s continued support for Somalia’s development, particularly in the religious and educational sectors. He emphasized the importance of strengthening the Waqf system to support social services, mosques, and religious schools throughout the country.

The two parties also discussed the expansion of scholarship programs for Somali students pursuing religious and higher education in Türkiye. The initiative aims to foster a new generation of well-trained Somali scholars and religious leaders who can contribute to national development and spiritual guidance.

“We are grateful to the people and government of Türkiye for their longstanding partnership with Somalia. These new commitments from the Diyanet Foundation will help us strengthen our institutions, support our youth, and promote moderate Islamic values,” said Robow.

The Diyanet delegation reaffirmed their readiness to increase collaboration, noting that Somalia holds a significant place in Türkiye’s global humanitarian and religious outreach programs. They pledged technical and financial support for the development of religious institutions and training programs for Somali clerics.

The visit highlights the growing diplomatic and developmental cooperation between Somalia and Türkiye, especially in sectors rooted in culture, faith, and education.
