2025 Child Protection Plan Launched by Somalia and UN

Mogadishu, Somalia – The Federal Government of Somalia and the United Nations have established a 2025 action plan focused on decreasing offenses against children and enhancing accountability within security organizations nationwide.

This initiative seeks to enhance safeguards for young individuals in conflict zones by intensifying supervision of military forces, reinforcing preventive measures, and bringing Somalia’s child protection measures in line with global norms.

According to authorities, the pact will bolster Somalia’s wider state development and security transformation efforts, enabling officials to prevent recruitment, exploitation, and other serious abuses targeting children, while improving relations between local communities and governmental bodies.

The strategy builds on advancements achieved in recent times and represents progress toward elevating Somalia’s global position regarding child rights adherence, a matter under close examination by UN agencies and international collaborators.

The accord was formalized in Mogadishu with the Minister of Defense, Ahmed Moalim Fiqi, UN Special Representative James Swan, and UNICEF Representative Sandra Latouff signing on behalf of their respective organizations, alongside high-ranking officials from essential government ministries present.
