Somalia Urged to Hold Another Electoral Conference

Somalia has been urged to hold another conference on elections to prevent the country going into a period of political instability.

Ex-President Hassan Sheikh said this during the ongoing Heritage Institute for Policy Studies (HIPS) annual forum.

The HIPS annual forum is taking place in Somalia for the first time.

Sheikh said the country needs a new conference that brings all stakeholders together to solve the elections impasse.

Furthermore, such a conference would offer the leadership an avenue for addressing some of the concerns that threaten Somalia’s stability.

He urged authorities to ensure that as many representatives of different sectors of the society attend the next conference.

Ex-President Sheikh reminded Somalis that consensus is the best solution instead of rushing into elections that could portend doom for the country.
